How to pimp your raglan sweater!

Our modern sweatshirt pattern "byNina" with raglan sleeves has a relaxed fit and is perfect for everyday. The pattern features a long body and a short body version and a low and higher neckline version. So you choose what look you’d like to create! And to to pimp up the sweater even more you can add a piping on the raglan sleeves!

This is how you do it:

First you cut two jersey strips. I cut the strip 4cm plus 2 x seam allowance. My seam allowance is about 0.2cm, so we have a strip 4.4cm. You can of course make the strip as wide and as narrow as you want. You fold the strip lengthways and iron it nicely.

Then you place the strip onto the raglan sleeve on the front part - with the open side of the strip facing the sleeve edge - and sew it closely to the edge on. Repeat on the other side. The seam that is directly on the sleeve will be covered later, so you don’t have to put too much effort into it.

Then you do the 2nd seam on the other edge (the folded side of the strip) and stitch it to the front piece of the sweater. Make sure to sew this one nice and straight, so that it looks neat afterwards. This is the stitch you will see. You do the whole thing with both strips.

Now you put on the sleeve and sew it to the front part. The piping is sandwiched between the front and the sleeve and because it is stitched on, nothing slips. When sewing on the sleeves, you have to make sure that the seam of the piping, which is close to the edge of the sleeve, gets covered. This should happen automatically, if you have sewn the piping close to the edge and now sew on the sleeve with 0.7 cm seam allowance. Do the same on the other side.

Finished - now you just continue with the byNina pattern as normal!
